We are increasingly living in a knowledge economy where information is what drives business decisions. Constantly changing environments, technologies and legislations are just some of the factors an organization needs to take into account, but compiling and analysing that information is no simple task. A new standard has just been published to help.
ISO 56006, Innovation management – Tools and methods for strategic intelligence management – Guidance, helps organizations put in place effective processes to use information in the best possible way. The standard can also be used to inform purchasing specifications when outsourcing strategic intelligence services.
Pierre Deplanche, Project Leader of the group of experts that developed the standard, said our dynamic and uncertain world requires that strategic-thinking leaders utilize knowledge to define their organizational and innovation strategy.
“It is through the effective collection, analysis and use of information that organizations can best respond to changes in their environment and have a competitive advantage,” he said.
“In this way, they can leverage strategic intelligence as an enabling factor to achieve their business objectives and to implement innovation initiatives.”
Guidance
Businesses can use the standard for a range of purposes, including anticipating risk and uncertainty, forecasting societal, political, technological and business drivers and implementing a structured approach to problem solving.
ISO 56006 was developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 279, Innovation management, whose secretariat is held by AFNOR, ISO’s member for France. It can be purchased from your national ISO member or the ISO Store.
