Some 90 % of the farms that provide food for the world are small, family-run and very poor. This is a double concern as we are facing a global food distribution problem. Climate change and population growth are also putting pressure on our food supplies, meaning changes are needed if the world’s people are to survive.
Professionalizing farmer organizations and helping them break into international markets is a key way of solving this, which is why ISO and NEN are organizing together a free webinar to discuss the issue and provide solutions to help.
The 90-minute webinar will detail how the globally agreed International Workshop Agreement IWA 29, Professional farmer organization – Guidelines, can open doors for smallholder farmers and improve their revenues and supply chain relationships within professional farmer organizations. It will also include views from the International Finance Corporation on how this document can effectively build the professionalism of smallholder farmer organizations in emerging markets.
The event will be useful primarily to ISO members in developing countries and their stakeholders, including relevant government ministries (i.e. ministries of agriculture, environment or trade), farm cooperatives, farmer associations, farmer unions, private holdings, conformity assessment and certification bodies, and micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises involved in the sector.
